For most people, especially those who care about their health and well-being, saunas are a great way to feel and look better. A sauna session is recommended by many people because it does wonders for certain diseases and health problems. However, this fact is preceded by an on-going debate on whether one should use an infrared sauna or the more traditional hot stone sauna. The choice all boils down to the specific reasons why someone needs a sauna session and the desired results that the person wants to achieve.

Saunas have been around for hundreds of years because of the therapeutic and health benefits that they give to people from various cultures. The popularity of saunas today is growing and this is directly related to technological advances, specifically the development of the infrared sauna. There is a school of thought that disagrees with the use of the infrared sauna and proclaims that the traditional sauna is better.

Let us take a look at how the two types of saunas work and what benefits each has to offer. For the infrared sauna, the advantage is for those who do not want to sweat profusely. The infrared equipment warms the air inside the sauna and will not cause extreme high temperatures and humidity. One does not have to sweat as much as when he is using a traditional hot stone sauna. In addition, infrared saunas are known to get rid of certain health problems like bronchitis, eczema, and acne. People who want to get rid of excess pounds and cellulite will benefit from having infrared sauna treatments.

The traditional hot stone sauna also gives similar effects as infrared saunas. Because one sweats a lot when in a hot stone sauna, the body releases toxins and burns fat deposits. The same effect is achieved when one does exercises, blood is also cleaned from impurities and are flushed out. Continue Reading »

infrared saunaJust about everyone can benefit from sitting in a sauna, and with infrared sauna popularity on the rise everyone wants to do just that. On top of going to spas to get their relaxation fix, more people are getting at-home infrared saunas to relax in — but many are disappointed of the small capacity of the average model. Luckily enough, there are 2 and even 3 person infrared sauna models available for purchase so you don’t have to have the sauna experience all by yourself!

These 3 person infrared saunas are almost three times the size of the one person model, meaning that you and your two best friends can get a quality sauna experience together. It’s proven that a person is more likely to stay in a sauna longer if they are not alone. The longer you and the two people stay in the sauna, the more benefits from this amazing technological breakthrough you receive. Continue Reading »

healthy womanAn expert in the field of EMW’s (Electro magnetic wavelengths) research and a developer of non-invasive devices for the treatment for chronic pain, Dr. Leon Silverstone, explains that:

“The mechanism of action is in some ways simple. It is related to vasodilatation, or increased blood flow and local temperature. The penetrating infrared energy brings nutrients and oxygen to the soft tissue region being treated and at the same time stimulates the removal of accumulated toxins.”
Additionally, Far-InfraRed reduces levels of lactic acid in the body. Lactic acid is a by-product of muscle metabolism that causes soreness and stiffness especially following exercise.
Dr. Tsu-Tsair Oliver Chi adds to the understanding of the healing power of Far-InfraRed with his discussion of Resonant Absorption:
“These rays are selectively absorbed by the tissues. The internal production of infrared energy that normally occurs within our tissues is associated with a variety of healing responses and may require a boost to a maximal level to insure the fullest healing response possible in a tissue under repair. After boosting a tissue’s level to maximum, the remaining rays pass onward harmlessly. This phenomenon is called Resonant Absorption.” Continue Reading »

Home Sauna Advantages

by Pertti Olavi Jalasjaa

woman lying in a sauna  Many people first discover the pleasures of sauna bathing in a spa or a health club. Others may be introduced to the delights of the sauna by friends who already own their own traditional Finnish or far infrared sauna. However a person may experience a sauna bath for the first time and however magnificently relaxing or invigorating that experience may be, it simply does not compare with the tremendous joy of being a home sauna owner.

With a commercial sauna or a residential sauna owned by a friend, you can never be sure of its availability, how clean the sauna is, or how properly it is being maintained. As well, you have only so much control over the sauna’s temperature, supplies and accessories.

detoxification chartDetoxification is a widely used treatment in alternative medicine for removing harmful toxins from our bodies. Although this method of healing has been around for thousands of years and is very popular in Europe, it is only recently becoming a popular treatment in North America.

Our body is designed to function and maintain itself at a high level of health. If this is true, why are so many of us unhealthy?

The answer to this question is modern society has created an environment full of preservatives, processed foods, drugs & medication which are very toxic to our bodies. In addition, industry produces many by products that are toxic not only to our bodies but also the environment.

girl sweating   Because of the level of pollution we are exposed to amd its many sources as well as poor dietary and ecercise habits, the therapeutic value of regular sweating has become immense. It has benefits for both body and mind and, in fact, is the primary benefit of exercise.
One of the best passive exercises is the radiant heat of an infrared sauna which, causes a profound deep sweat. After about 30 minutes of exposure, the blood vessels of the skin dilate to allow more blood to flow to the surface to support the cooling process. The millions of sweat glands covering the body are infused with fluid from the blood. In turn, they empty to the skin’s surface, thereby flushing large amounts of toxins, including toxic acids and heavy metals, from the body.
My research over the last two years shows that a radiant heat [infrared] sauna provides the following benefits:

Books such as Cross Currents, by Robert O. Becker, M.D., have detailed the hazards of exposure to certain kinds of electromagnetic fields such as those encountered under high tension power lines or while working at computer display terminals. Japanese researchers have reported that infrared radiant heat serves as an antidote to the negative effects of such toxic electromagnetic sources.

A Sauna Buying Guide

I began looking for a sauna about 6 years ago. I started by attending home and garden shows, searching the Internet, scouring through eBay and visiting local dealers. There was so much confusing information, and I was told so many conflicting things, that I decided to go on a mission to sort through the confusion and find out what was really important to know when purchasing a sauna. This guide is a condensed version of my research notes, and I hope it will help you sort through the sauna confusion.
