Finnish people invented the sauna two thousand years ago. Of course, these ancient saunas have little in common with the modern ones we have today, but the sweating process is just the same. High heat, low humidity, and lots of sweating create a healthy environment for us to excrete the toxins that are so prevalent today.
When most Americans think of saunas, they invariably think of rich men wrapped in towels. These rich business men sit around, sweat, and talk business. Generally, saunas are separated according to sex so some people sit in them unclothed, More often than not Americans, invariably modest, generally do wear some kind of clothing or towels. They sweat, sweat and sweat some more. Temperatures are very high but the lower humidity keeps the room from being unbearable.
Many cruise ships today have infrared saunas for their cruisers. The gym usually has one sauna for the gentlemen and one for females. Because cruising can be a little stressful because of all of the food and activities, a sauna is the perfect place to relax, meditate, and detoxify the body. Some cruise ships use steam saunas which are also great for the body.
Because saunas are becoming so popular, many people have decided to build a home sauna. Because people can go to do it yourself stores for a sauna kit, the price is no longer such a problem. You can buy a sauna kit and build your own sauna or you can get plenty of information on the Internet about how to build a sauna. Be careful if you build your own, because too much heat can be health threatening. Therefore, be careful that your temperature controls are calibrated correctly.
If you are thinking about getting a home sauna or going to a gym sauna, be sure to talk to your doctor if you have any health problems, It’s always best to be safe than sorry. There are some health problems that might be intensified by the high heat. If the doctor clears you for sauna sitting, go for it.
The health benefits for saunas have been touted for years. Ridding the body of toxins is certainly something we want to think about in this day and time. Also, the steam opens the sinuses and the pores. Nothing wrong with that. Life is really funny. Everything old is new again. Saunas have been around for two thousand years and many people are just discovering the health benefits of having a home sauna whether it be an infrared sauna or a steam sauna. We all want to stay younger longer so whatever will help us achieve that goal is what we want. If a sauna seems like something you would enjoy, visit one and then create your own. Then you can sweat in a hot sauna any time you want.
